About Us
WHY IFPD?
International = because giving should have no borders
Foundation = a small organization with a big heart and big dreams
for the Physically Disabled = anyone whose freedom of movement is restricted due to disease and/or amputation, and who lacks financial means to better their situation themselves
The International Foundation for the Physically Disabled is the brainchild of Cobus Venter, a qualified Orthotist and Prosthetist. Growing up in South Africa and spending time in various countries (Tunisia, Senegal, Southern Africa, Europe, Canada and the USA), he has seen the difficulty disabled people can face in getting the medical devices they need in order to lead the lives they wish for, or to provide for their families. Whether it is due to poverty, availability, lack of insurance, war, or a variety of other factors, the outcome is the same: physically disabled people all over the world with limited financial means need assistance.
Through the IFPD we hope to reach some of these individuals and provide them with the necessary and appropriate prostheses, orthotics and other durable medical devices. We use the concept of ‘re-use and recycle’ – striving to be a ‘green’ organization in the medical field. Too many medical components end up in landfills in developed countries. A box of expired surgical gloves is a priceless item in a remote village in Africa where gloves are often washed to be re-used!
The concept of the IFPD is too big for just one person to put into action. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the process up to this point – whether you contributed funds, information, your valuable time or donated used components – your support is greatly appreciated.
